On 8th October 2005, there was an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale in the region of Kashmir. The earthquake took place approximately 10 km under the earth’s surface. A total of 50,000 were killed and another 70,000 injured in the 3 countries affected, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. About three million people were made homeless. No help could be provided for countless of those injured because many villages had been cut off from the surrounding area. The situation in Pakistan is disparately worse than in the other countries, as this is where the epicentre was. For this reason, Swiss and international aid is concentrating on Pakistan.
